Theneer Viduthi

S S Kumaran left his mark as a successful music-composer with 'Poo' and 'Kalavani'. Now he is trying his luck wielding the megaphone with 'Theneer Viduthi'.

With lesser-known faces, he has woven a simple, straight-forward film. There are enough lighter moments in the movie that may go down well with front-benchers.

The film is about two brothers Kumaran (Adith) and 'Pandhal' Raja (Kodumudi Suresh). They earn their livelihood by erecting 'pandhals' in the village for festivals and functions. Fun-loving and causal, they enjoy every moment.

Things change when Valli (Reshmi) enters Kumaran's life. Daughter of Sub-Registrar Nachiyappa Chettiyar (Prabhakar), she wants to marry Kumaran. Coming to know about the romance between Kumaran and Valli, the latter is sent to her sister's house.

But Kumaran goes there. All plans are made for their wedding by friends. But it gets halted. The rest is a funny drama with predictable twists and turns, throwing light on whether the two get wed-locked or not.

Kumaran has narrated the simple life of village and the aspirations of a doting father well. The movie is laced with lighter elements all through. But at many places it goes dragging and dull.

The story may not be new, but Kumaran has tried to infuse some pace.

Cinematography by Manavalan is top-class capturing the village beauty well, while Kumaran's re-recording and musical score are good.

Adhith is good-looking and tries his best to liven up the proceedings. Kodumudi Suresh plays all pranks in the film. Prabhakar is good and tailor-made for the role. Reshmi has a major role to play.

Due credit should be given to Kumaran for avoiding commercial cliches as he ensures that he gives a simple movie. There are some lagging moments but considering this to be Kumaran's maiden venture, they can be over-looked.
