The Multiplex Association of India is shocked that the Delhi government has locked down multiplexes and cinemas all over the city-State by announcing Yellow Alert in view of the Omicron scare. The lockdown is indefinite and may not come to an end anytime soon.
Kamal Gainchandani, the President of the MAI, has said that the lockdown (which is the third one since March 2020) will do irreparable damage to the exhibition sector, which has suffered losses to the tune of thousands of crores across the country since the pandemic began.
Another member of the Association urged the Arvind Kejriwal government not to take drastic steps. The MAI added that, after the unlocking process began during the pandemic, theatres/multiplexes have implemented "enhanced ventilation systems, enhanced hygiene" as part of the safety protocols.
The theatre shutdown in Delhi has led to uncertainty ahead of the theatrical release of 'Roudram Ranam Rudhiram' and 'Radhe Shyam'.
