Officials on Wednesday raided a number of theatres in Vijayawada and other locations in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. As per reports, as many as 15 theatres have been closed down by officials on different grounds. Krishna district theatre owners are going to hold a meeting tomorrow.
The sleuths raided the theatres to check whether CCTV cameras were functioning or not. They also verified the rates at which snacks were being sold. They sought feedback from customers, who are reported to have complained about water bottles being sold for a bomb.
The raids come in the wake of 250 theatres recently winning a plea in the AP High Court regarding the lowering of cinema ticket prices by the government through a GO.
Meanwhile, AP Cinematography Minister Perni Nani has suggested that there is no real problem that the film industry is facing. "Coronavirus is a real problem and they didn't release movies. But ticket prices are not an issue. That's why they are releasing movies. If it were a real problem, they wouldn't have announced the release of movies for Sankranthi," Nani commented.
