The Andhra Pradesh government earlier this year brought out GO No. 35 fixing the ticket prices for theatres in different tiers of towns and villages. However, the implementation of the GO hasn't been sincere.

Producer Natti Kumar, whose heart beats for the health of the Telugu film industry, recently moved the Andhra Pradesh High Court, seeking a directive from it to theatres. He stated in his petition that a lot of theatres in Vizag, for example, have been charging rates over and above the rates fixed by the GO.

Disposing of his petition, the HC opined that the government-determined rates must be implemented by all theatres in strict observance of rules.

In an interview before the release of 'Narappa', producer D Suresh Babu talked about the issue of theatres resorting to extra-legal means to make profits if the low ticket prices continue to be forced on them. This is what is happening already. A lot of theatres, the producer said, would have to close shop if they don't make profits because of the low ticket prices fixed by the government.
