As we had reported earlier, the upcoming Dulquer Salmaan film 'Salute' is skipping its theatrical release and will be available for streaming on March 18. The movie, which was slated to release on January 14 was postponed in the wake of the spiking COVID and Omicron cases of the pandemic. “Just like all of you, we were most excited and eagerly awaiting our next release. Owing to recent developments and the spike in Covid-19 and Omicron cases, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the release of “Salute”. We apologise if we’ve disappointed you. But in times like this we must prioritise health and safety. We request everyone to stay safe. We will be back. At the earliest. We thank each and every one of you for your support. #Salute #Salutepostponed #SafetyFirst #OurApologies,” Dulquer Salmaan, who is also the producer of the movie, said, in an earlier statement. Later, the team opted for an OTT release, and ‘Salute’ is slated to release on Sony Liv from March 18.

On Tuesday, the Film Exhibitor’s United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), the association of theatre owners in the State, has decided to boycott the films of actor Dulquer Salman, as he decided to go for a direct digital release of Salute, despite signing agreements with the film exhibitors. It is this agreement that's not being honoured now that Salute is moving to an OTT platform at the last moment, FEUOK had said. FEUOK has also clarified that they would not cooperate with the release of Dulquer's movies in other languages as well. A final decision on the same matter will be presented in the general body meeting of FEUOK on March 31.

Salute, a crime drama, will see Dulquer step into the shoes of a cop, Aravind Karunakaran. Helmed by Rosshan Andrews, Salute marks the first association of Dulquer with the director as well as the writer-duo of Bobby and Sanjay. Produced under the production banner Wayfarer Films, the movie marks the Malayalam debut of Bollywood actress Diana Penty and will also star Manoj K Jayan in a pivotal role.
