Tamil Film Producers Council President Vishal had earlier announced to not release any movies from this this Friday as a way of protesting against the levy of 10% entertaintainment tax in addition to GST.

Members of the council including the producers, distrubutors and theatres convened this evening again and reiterated their decision to not release films starting this October 6, unless the government addresses the issue in a favourable way.

Talking to presspersons after the meeting, Vishal opined that owing the state 40% of the profits in the form of tax is not feasible for the film industry. Stating that producers of the film will beget only loss if they release their films with entertainment tax, Vishal called on the state government to cancel the levy of entertainment tax.

Owing to this unanimous decision to screen new movies starting this October 6, 9 movies have been rescheduled or postponed. However theatres will screen movies which have been already released until they are met with a favourable resolution.
