As we have reported earlier, the Tamil Nadu theater owners have announced an indefinite strike from Tomorrow to protest the State Government's decision to levy 30% tax apart from the GST on movie tickets. Now movies will be screened from Monday in theaters across Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Film Producers Council has urged the theater owners to reconsider their decision to go on strike as it will severely affect the producers of the film released on Friday last (June 30).

The theater owners lead by Abirami Ramanathan has met the Chief Minister Edappadi Palanichamy regarding this matter and has requested him to do away with the state government's tax on Tamil films. They have also met minister D.Jayakumar, Veeramani and S.P.Velumani and placed their request. to do away with the state tax and have only the GST on local language films like the neighboring states Kerala and Karnataka.

The veteran producer said they expect a favorable response from the State Government and in that case they can withdraw the strike.

Ramanathan said a meeting of Tamil film producers, distributors and theater owners will happen at 10:30 am today (July 2). After the meeting we will announce our decision about withdrawing or going ahead with the strike.
