Malls and theaters across Tamil Nadu wore a deserted look since all theaters were shut due to the strike announced by TN Theater Owners Federation against the levy of 30% Entertainment tax by the State Government.
On Monday, Tamil Film Producers Council President Vishal, Nadigar Sangam President Nassar, Theater Owners Association leader Abirami Ramanathan and a team consisting of film producers, distributors and theater owners met the Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palanisamy, State Finance Minister D.Jayakumar and a few other ministers and held discussions to persuade the government to withdraw the extra tax levied apart from GST..
After the meeting Vishal said the Government has sought more time and the discussions would continue on Tuesday. A favorable reply from the government is expected to emerge today.
Producer Abirami Ramanathan said the theaters strike will continue until the State Government repeals the ordinance to levy 30% Entertainment tax on movie tickets through the local bodies. Hence all the theaters across the state will remain shut for the second day, today.
