On Wednesday the Tamil Film Producers Council headed by President Kalaipuli.S.Thanu conducted an emergency meeting and made the following announcement:
"As per the resolutions passed in the meeting. The Producers Council will render support only to the theaters that released the film 'Theri' in 'Chengalpet, Thiruvallur and Kancheepraum areas." This means henceforth the producer council will not allow any Tamil film to be released in the theaters that refused to screen the Vijay-Samantha starrer.
Reacting to this. Pannerselvam. the Secretary of Tamil Nadu Theater Owners Association has said that if the Producers Council boycotts the theaters that refused to screen 'Theri' the theater owners across Tamil Nadu will boycott Thanu's next film 'Kabali'. He also said 'Kabali' hero, Superstar Rajinikanth should intervene and facilitate an amicable solution.
Meanwhile Producer-Actor Udhayanidhi Stalin has tweeted that his upcoming film 'Manithan' set to hit the screens on April 29, 2016 will release in around 300 screens across Tamil Nadu, including all AVAILABLE screens in Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts.
When a follower requested him to uphold the unity among Tamil Film Producers, he retorted saying that Producer Council never cared to intervene when his five films were denied the Tax exemption in the past five years.
Actor Sasikumar's 'Vetrivel' is being released worldwide by Lyca Productions from tomorrow (April 22) is also releasing in the theaters where 'Theri' did not release.
But there is a ray of hope as talks have been initiated between Producers Council and Theater Owners Association and we can expect an amicable solution soon.
