You probably have heard of the famous animated sitcom ‘The Simpsons’. For people who don’t know Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, he is an Indian-American character with a thick accent. Hank Azaria who has been voicing for the character has recently stated he was willing to ‘step aside’ from doing lendig his voice for the charcter.
The reason cited was that the character portryaed a negative , stereotypical outlook of South Asians. “It was certainly not my intention. I wanted to spread laughter and joy with this character and the idea that it's brought pain and suffering in any way, that it was used to marginalize people, it's upsetting,” Hank said.
