The other face of Rohini

If you thought ‘Raavanan’ was the first film for Rohini as a dubbing artist, think again. For the actress’s dubbing career started almost two decades ago, when Mani Ratnam asked her to lend voice to the female lead character in ‘Idhayathai Thirudadhey’.

From then, Rohini has dubbed for most Mani movies, including ‘Bombay’ (Manisha Koirala), ‘Iruvar’, ‘Guru’ and ‘Raavanan’ (for Aishwarya in all the three films). “It was Mani Ratnam who identified my potential as a dubbing artist,” she says.

Not just that, Rohini has dubbed for female lead characters in films by other directors too. She was the one who lent voice for Jyothika in ‘Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu’ and for Manisha Koirala in ‘Indian’.

But she is not so happy to receive the compliment ‘You have done a good job’. “A dubbing artist’s success is to make the audience believe it as the character’s voice. They should not identify who you are,” Rohini explains.
