The release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' starring Alia Bhatt is just around the corner and judging by promotional content, it is clear that Alia is all set to deliver a truly amazing performance in it. During a recent promotional chat with a news outlet, the actress revealed why she took up the project. Apart from getting to work with Bhansali, Alia was tempted by the woman empowerment and feminist aspect of the script.
According to a recent report in The Indian Express, she stated, "It’s not the most commercial subject, but there have been films made on this subject. I think if you give the audience a really good character, where they come from or who they are becomes secondary.”
She added, "..at the heart of this film are a lot of powerful social points. It’s an underdog story, a story of struggle. Wherever you come from, I think everyone can connect to a story of rising from struggle.”
Talking about how 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' sparked something inside her, Alia said, "The feminist in me was even more activated after this part. I became more sensitive to the conversation of equality, which has been ongoing for a while, and will continue until there’s no need for it."
