Following the expulsion n of 'Adaminte Makan Abu' from the race for awards for the best foreign language feature in the year's Oscars, DAM 999, the other movie from Kerala is also out for the competition. The $ 10 million movie about a cracking dam, fails to find a place in the final nomination list for best feature in the 84th Academy Awards, announced yesterday at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre. The movie was hoping to find a space in list of the best picture, best original song and best original score categories.

The nine movies that has been finalised for the best picture category from a 265 nominations include- "The Artist", "The Descendants", "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close", "The Help", "Hugo", "Midnight in Paris", "Moneyball", "The Tree of Life" and "War Horse" . The year’s Oscar presentation ceremony is scheduled for February 26 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
