Saran films usually are colourful and very pleasing to the eyes. Be it his choice of locations or the costumes of the actors, Saran weaves a perfectly colour co-ordinated magic in his films. One remembers even after so many years the colourful visuals of films like his romantic ‘Jay Jay’. The colour tone of ‘Unai Naan…’ song in ‘Jay Jay’ is still fresh in the minds. Even in a comedy ‘Vasool Raja MBBS’, the colours of the costumes the group dancers in the song ‘Kalaka povathu yaaru…’ was wearing is remembered by all Saran fans. There are many more to note.

But ‘Asal’ marks a minor slip in Saran’s judgment it looked. Even with two very beautiful girls and the Fashion capital of the world to boot the usual magic of Saran colours is missing in the film. The titles said Ajith designed his own costumes. But given the role he played there isn’t much to offer except debonair silky suits. But what’s for Sameera Reddy and Bhavana? Seems Saran was too much carried away by the ‘Billa’ effect.
