Maestro Ilaiyaraaja has commented that, in today's cinema industry, there are no composers. He suggested that you can't call someone a composer if his song stays with the listener for hardly a week.
"If a song is on people’s minds for just one week or so, how can you call it viral? There are no composers in the film industry today; there are only programmers. Does anything stand the test of time?" the legendary music director commented in an interview with The Hindu.
He also said that music directors are bored of composing music for a reason. Ilaiyaraaja lamented that there are hardly four-five situations in cinema. "That’s why AR Rahman gave a statement once that he is bored of composing for films. The same themes of love, love failure, and one-sided love keep repeating itself," the celebrated veteran said.
His most recent work is Mohan Babu's 'Son Of India'.
