Thats why many in India are angry with Twitter

Last week, the new social media platform Mastodon was trending in India, ironically on Twitter. Mastodon is Twitter's rival but it is also its better cousin in some respects. Many in India are angry with Twitter ever since Supreme Court lawyer Sanjay Hegde's account was suspended for no proper reason.

As per several reports, Twitter has come in for much flak for its arbitrary and inconsistent stand on pressing social media concerns such as hate speech.

On the other hand, Mastodon's anti-abuse systems are fair and consistent, reports say.

In the wake of many users complaining about Twitter, this is what the microblogging site said last week, "There’s been a lot of discussion this week about Twitter's perceived bias in India. To be clear, whether it's the development of policies, product features, or enforcement of our Rules, we are impartial and do not take action based upon any ideology or political viewpoint."

When it comes to moderating content, any platform has to be scrupulous and fair. With activists such as Kavitha Krishnan alleging that Twitter is biased against Dalits, women, etc, the company has to make sure that the perception dies.
