Thats how EVMs can be hacked: Hari Prasad

Hari Prasad, the activist who has claimed since 2010 that Indian EVMs are hackable, is back in the news. He has said that, in the just-concluded elections, VVPAT machines posed a discrepancy.

"The VVPAT machines emit a slip showing whom the voter has voted for. As per the Election Commission, these machines are supposed to show each slip for 7 seconds before getting into a box. However, they showed the slips for just 3 seconds this time. Did the EC change the code? If yes, why didn't it inform the public beforehand? When I raised the issue recently and sought an appointment with the EC, I was sought to be silenced when an official said that there is a case pending against me. How does it matter that a case is pending against me? When I asked a question, why can't they answer it? I will soon write a blog on the topic," Hari Prasad said.

Days after the first phase of polling on April 11, the same issue was raised by Congress party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi. It may be recalled that the Supreme Court hasn't been approached with the complaint. The Opposition parties could have done it but they didn't. Also, the matching of VVPAT slips and EVMs was done on May 23 and it was found out that the accuracy was 100 percent across all assembly constituencies in the country.
