'That 70s Show' actor and disc jockey Danny Masterson has been charged with the rapes of three women in the early 2000s, according to Los Angeles prosecutors.
The actor is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman whom he had invited to his home in Hollywood Hills some time between October and December of 2003, the district attorney's office said in a news release. He is also accused of raping a 28-year-old woman that same year as well as a 23-year-old woman in 2001. All of the allegations of rape occurred in the actor's home, the news release mentioned. The charges were filed on Tuesday and an arrest warrant was subsequently issued. The statement from the complainants through their attorneys read, "We are thankful that the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office is finally seeking criminal justice against Masterson. We are confident that the truth will be known and hope that the charges filed today are the first steps in this long journey of healing, justice, and holding those that victimized us accountable."
Meanwhile, Masterson's attorney Tom Mesereau has claimed that the actor is innocent. "We're confident that he will be exonerated when all the evidence finally comes to light and witnesses have the opportunity to testify. Obviously, Mr. Masterson and his wife are in complete shock considering that these nearly 20-year old allegations are suddenly resulting in charges being filed, but they and their family are comforted knowing that ultimately the truth will come out. The people who know Mr. Masterson know his character and know the allegations to be false," he said.
Masterson could face up to 45 years in prison if convicted. He is best known for his role as Steven Hyde in That 70s Show. The show also featured Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.
