'Thank You' saw extreme reactions in occupancy when it came to multiplexes v/s single screens. Since Anees Bazmee-Akshay Kumar combination has done well earlier too in single screens, the results showed with 'Thank You' opening quite well in such centres. In fact the film has managed consistent collections at single screens which is a clear sign that for the masses, 'Thank You' has turned out to be a satisfying experience.
However multiplexes were low in comparison and the pick didn't quite happen on Friday evening. Though Friday was on a lower side with around 5 crores coming in on the first day, there was a pick up over the weekend with overall collections touching the 18 crores mark. Yes, one did expect close to 25 crores opening weekend for 'Thank You' but the silver lining is that this is a better opening than Akshay's last film 'Patiala House'.
Also, since the film is more mass friendly, there are chances of the film settling down with consistent collections to take it past the safety mark. Since only competition in this fortnight is 'Teen Thay Bhai' (which releases coming Friday), there are no scares yet. Also, there are two holidays this week which gives 'Thank You' an opportunity to earn more moolah.
The reviews are extremely mixed as well though masses frequenting the theaters aren't much impacted with that. However for the film to succeed, word of mouth has to be strong enough to take the film past the second weekend as well with good collections.
As of now it is the wait and watch situation for Akshay Kumar as well as Anees Bazmee who is looking at shrugging away the failure of 'No Problem'. Though the film is far away from matching the box office collections of 'Singh Is Kinng' and 'Welcome', it should cross the total of 'No Entry' which was in the vicinity of 45 crores.
