Today is the birthday of director Mohan Raja.

Born as the elder son of veteran editor Mohan, Raja made his directorial debut with the Telugu film 'Hanuman Junction', the Telugu remake of Tamil film 'Thenkasi Pattanam'. Then he made his Tamil debut with the Tamil remake of Telugu film 'Jayam' which turned out to be a big blockbuster. This was followed by 'M.Kumaran S/o Mahalakshmi', 'Unakkum Enakkum' and 'Santhosh Subramanaim' which were remakes of Telugu films. All these films were super hits. Raja also teamed up with Ilayathalapathy Vijay for 'Velayudham' which turned out to be commercial success/ 'Thillalangadi' was the only film directed by Raja that did not do well commercially.

However with such a track record of success. Raja was largely criticized for remaking successful films in other languages and not writing a script on his own. After taking a long gap Raja worked on the script of 'Thani Oruvan' and the film not just silenced the critics but also completely changed the image of the director. The unanimously acclaimed blockbuster made Mohan Raja as one of the highly respected directors of Tamil cinema.

For the first time Raja's film was remade in Telugu as 'Dhruva' by another director and that also turned out to be a huge hit in Telugu.

Mohan Raja is currently directing 'Velaikkaran' with Sivakarthikeyan and Nayanthara and this is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The film has been scheduled to hit the screens on September 29, 2017.We can be assured that Raja will repeat his 'Thani Oruvan' magic with this film also.
