A soft-spoken upright youth is forced to go the wrong way, he turns Robinhood and goes a gun blazing for a cause. This has formed the crux of many films in the past. No different is 'Thambi Vettothi Sundaram'.
The movie had promised a lot during its pre-release. Does it live up to all hype? No is the answer, as what begins as an entertainer ends up as an emotional pot-boiler. However, director Vadivudayan has laced the script with some interesting moments, while narrating the life of a gangster who lived in Kanyakumari district.
Karan plays Sundaram, a post-graduate turned gangster. Anjali, Saravanan, Kadhal Dhandapani and Ganja Karuppu are also in the cast. Music is by Vidyasagar.
Sundaram (Karan) dreams of landing in a government job. But corrupt officials come in between his goal. He loses a chance to achieve his desire. Thanks to his friend Salai (Saravanan), Salai emerges a gangster but with a golden heart. In the meantime, he meets Lourdes Mary (Anjali), daughter of another gangster. She studies in a local college.
When things go well and Sundaram plans to marry Lourdes, all hell breaks loose. A revenge game results in bloodshed. Does he emerge triumphant forms the crux.
As usual Karan has tried his best to keep things going with his matured performance. His body language and dialogue delivery deserve kudos. Anjali's performance is worth a mention as she simply steals the show. Saravanan impresses and reminds one of 'Paruithiveeran' Chitappu at places.
The highlights of the movie are the melodious numbers by Vidyasagar. What begins as a high-voltage action film fizzles out to end as an emotional drama. But still, Vadivudayan can be complimented for an honest attempt.
