Thalapathy Vijay's swanky Rolls Royce Ghost has been a hot topic for over a year now he claimed against the entry tax imposed by the state government. The case was dealt in the Madras Highcourt and has finally come to an end.
The Chennai high court has now officially closed the matter, according to the most recent information on it. The judge in Vijay's Rolls Royce car case ruled yesterday that if the actor paid the full entry tax before January 2019, no penalties shall be placed on the imported vehicle.
Also, Judge Suresh Kumar closed the case stating that it is mandatory to pay entry tax for imported cars, and if the entry tax is not paid even after January 2019, a fine can be imposed. For the unversed, Vijay was required to pay entrance tax on a luxury automobile he purchased from the US in 2005 that is valued at Rs 63 lakh by the Commercial Tax Department of Tamil Nadu.
Vijay brought a lawsuit against the entry tax before the High Court, and the judge ruled that states had the right to levy entry taxes. Actor Vijay later paid an entrance tax in the amount of 7 lakh 98 thousand 75 rupees in September 2021. The Commercial Tax Department did, however, direct that a penalty for the interim period of unpaid tax be paid in the amount of 30 lakh 23 thousand 609 rupees in December 2021.
After the actor was sentenced to paying 400 per cent of the penalty, Vijay contended that the cost should only be computed by 2 per cent each month beginning from the time the automobile was imported and as a consequence filed a complaint against the case at the Chennai High Court. It is also notable that the court issued an order that such a reputed actor is expected to pay the tax promptly and punctually and should not remain a “mere reel-life hero.”
