In the year 2012 Thalapathy Vijay imported a costly luxury car the Rolls Royce Ghost from London. He paid a large amount of money to import as custom duty and paid all the taxes and charges. He requested an exemption from the entry tax, which was in the tens of lakhs, as per the rules.
The case concerning the entry tax exemption was pending for nine years and and came up for hearing a couple of months back and judge S.M. Subramaniam, , chastised the leading South Indian hero for requesting an entry tax exemption and fined him Rs. 1 lakh, which he was asked to pay to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's COVID 19 fund. Vijay appealed against the judge's harsh remarks and also refused to pay the fine amount stating that he already contributed to the relief fund a sum of rupees twenty-five lakhs. On the bench court's subsequent orders Vijay paid the entire tax amount.
Today the Tamil Nadu government informed the court that Thalapathy Vijay has paid the entire tax amount. The court has adjourned the case to an unspecified date
