Thalapathy Vijay is currently the biggest box office draw among his generation of actors and his stock keeps rising with every film release. He is currently shooting for his next 'Varisu' directed by Vamshi Paidipally and costarring Rashmika Mandanna. He is next set to star in 'Thalapathy 67' directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Seven Screen Studios.
Meanwhile when Vijay filed his income tax returns for the fiscal year 2016-17, he stated that he earned 35 crore 42 lakhs 91 thousand and 890 rupees for that period. The Income Tax officials, who conducted the assessment for that year, compared it with the documents seized in the previous raid conducted at the super star's house in 2015. Accordingly, it found that the income of Rs 15 crore received for the film 'Puli' was not accounted for.
Subsequently, the IT Department issued an order on June 30, imposing a fine of one and a half crore rupees on Vijay for concealing this income who challenged it in the Madras High Court. The counsel for the actor maintained that if at all the fine had to be imposed it should have been done in 2019 itself and not now and prayed to squash it.
Judge Anita Sumant, who heard the petition, passed an interim stay on the Income Tax Department's order and ordered it to respond to the petition. She further adjourned the hearing to September 16.
