The Tamil Nadu theatres are in celebration mode with the re-release of Thalapathy Vijay's 20-year-old blockbuster, 'Ghilli'. We already informed you that the 'Ghilli' re-release had the highest footfalls on the opening day in Tamil cinema this year.
While the 'Ghilli' broke the box-office records of the other Indian re-releases on the first day, it has created a new record on par with Hollywood re-releases this time. As per the trade reports, Ghilli became the fourth only film to gross over ₹10 crores at the Indian box office after Titanic 3D, Sholay 3D, and Avatar among the re-releases in this century.
We have learnt that the Ghilli re-release grosses ₹10.3 crores in India with ₹9 crores in Tamil Nadu at the end of the third day. The film shows no signs of slowing down as fans and family audiences pour in huge numbers to watch it even on weekdays. 'Ghilli' is expected to have a long theatrical run just like its initial release, 20 years back.
