Thalapathy Vijay once again finds himself in trouble due to his imported luxurious car. The actor seeking tax exemption for his imported Rolls Royce car courted controversy in 2021 and now a case filed regarding the tax dismissal of his other luxurious car lands him in a problem.
Actor Vijay imported the BMW X5 worth Rs 63 lakhs from the United States in 2005. The commercial tax department of the Tamil Nadu government has ordered to pay the entrance tax for the luxurious car. Following this, the star filed a case in the Madras High Court seeking tax dismissal.
The High Court ordered that the states can collect entry tax from the actor and Vijay's side paid 7 lakh 98 thousand 75 rupees in September 2021. Later in December 2021, the Commercial Tax Department asked for a fine of 30 lakh 23 thousand 609 rupees for the interim period of non-payment of tax (December 2005 to September 2021).
Vijay's side filed a petition against this order which was heard in the court yesterday. Vijay's lawyer argued that they were fined 400 per cent in the case. But the Commercial Tax Department argued that the amount (30 lakh 23 thousand 650 rupees) is calculated by imposing a fine of 2% for 189 months (2005 to 2021) and has requested the court to dismiss the case with a penalty.
