Thalapathy Vijay won the Best International Actor Award at the 5TH Annual International Achievement Recognition Awards Ceremony that was held on 22nd September 2018, at Hilton Hotel Canary Wharf, London. The honor came for 'Mersal' directed by Atlee and produced by Sri Thenandal Films in which Vijay rocked in three different roles of a village head, a doctor and a magician.

The IARA Awards are based purely on audience votes and Thalapathy Vijay received the most number of votes online in Best International Actor Award category proving the might of his fan base. He was also nominated in the Best Actor category as well but it went to English actor Jamie Lomas for his performance in 'Hollyoaks'.

Thalapathy Vijay's next movie is 'Sarkar' directed by A.R. Murugadoss and produced by Sun Pictures which hits the screens on Diwali 2018. The A.R. Rahman musical has Keerthy Suresh as Vijay's pair while Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Radha Ravi, Yogi Babu, Premkumar, Pazha Karuppaiah and others co-star.
