In a rousing conclusion to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's (TVK) first-ever political conference, actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay delivered a powerful speech outlining the ideological framework and ambitions of his newly established party. The event marked Vijay’s first public foray into politics, with him announcing central and state ruling parties – the BJP and DMK – as TVK's rivals, drawing widespread attention and sparking a significant public debate.
"There is a group that has been creating divisions within society (BJP). Those who create divisions are our first enemy. Those who claim to uphold Dravidian ideology but are exploiting Tamil Nadu as a family enterprise are our next rivals (DMK). The BJP is our ideological opponent while the DMK is our political adversary.
Calling an authoritarian governance style the 'Dravidian Model' after implementing it in a fascist manner is simply deception. They use the names of Periyar and Anna to cement family rule. They are, in fact, direct opponents to our principles.
Shelter, food, and employment are basic rights. If a government cannot provide these to the people, what good is it? What difference does it make if such a government exists or not? I want to pose this question. I did not come here to be just another party; my goal is to work as one of you, alongside you. I am here now with a strong purpose.
We can see those who oppose us with divisive ideologies. Corrupt individuals may hide behind the mask of culture or other guises. True, great politics is politics that is for the people. Painting those who oppose you with some colour or the other will not work, because our doctrine is that everyone is equal by birth."
