It is a well-known fact that the members of Thalapathy Vijay's fan club 'Vijay Makkal Iyakkam' contested in the Tamil Nadu rural local body elections in October 2021. It turned out to be an underdog story as the candidates who represented the VMI finished in third place in the polls next to the ruling party DMK and the opposition party AIADMK.
Now, the latest news is that Thalapathy Vijay has given a green signal to his fans association members to contest in the upcoming Tamil Nadu urban local body election. The state election commission has announced a single phase for the urban civic bodies on February 19 and the counting will take place on February 22.
Today, the VMI head Bussy Anand discussed candidate selection with the members for contesting in the elections. Bussy Anand has said, "Thalapathy will make the announcement you wished for shortly. We have asked for the auto symbol as our emblem to the election commission. Up to 300 candidates will file nominations in each district."
On the other hand, the Tamil Nadu election commission has rejected the VMI members' request for the emblem. The state commission has stated, "We cannot provide the auto logo to Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. The symbol will be allotted only if registered with the Election Commission of India. When not registered, the Auto emblem cannot be assigned."
