Thala Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings locked horns with the defending champions Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2023 on the home ground Chepauk Stadium. Though the Yellow Army lost the toss, they managed to defeat GT's stronger chasing side by defending a total of 172.
CSK won by 15 runs and also became the first team to bowl Gujarat Titans all out. This is the club's first win against GT in the league while they beat CSK three times earlier. CSK is the only IPL team to qualify for playoffs 12 times and enter the finals 10 times. Thala Dhoni's post-match speech with Harsha Bhogle went viral once again last night.
The veteran talked about CSK entering playoffs again, whether he decided on his retirement yet and added that he can be annoying on the field. Dhoni says, "I think IPL is too big to say it is just another final. It is no longer eight teams. Ten teams makes it all the more tougher. Hard work of two months. Lot of character showed by our players. Everyone has contributed. Yes, middle order hasn't got ample opportunity but they have chipped in."
"We try to create an enviroment. We reiterate what the fast bowler's strength is. We try to help them improve. And we try to help them explore their bowling. The support staff - Bravo, Eric - are also there, but when they are standing they are alone. You see the wicket, you see conditions, and you keep adjusting the field. I can be a very annoying captain because I change the field every time. It can be annoying but I believe in my gut feet. That's why I keep telling the fielders to keep an eye on me," the legendary cricketer adds.
Finally, Harsha Bhogle asked, "Fans in Chennai.... will they see you again over here?" and Thala Dhoni answered, "I don't know, I have 8-9 months to decide. I have ample time to decide. The auction is in December. I'll always be there for CSK, whether it's playing or something outside. I have been out of home from January, been practicing since March, so we will see."
