The 2019 Pongal is going to be a three way battle at the box office with Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Petta', Thala Ajith's 'Viswasam' and Simbu's 'Vantha Rajaavathan Varuven' locking horns.  Sources suggest that of the three films 'Viswasam' will be the first to release on Thursday the 10th of January and will have a headstart of four days over the other films.

Trade analysts say that Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Petta' will arrive on Pongal day the 14th of January which is a Monday and will dominate that entire week as well.  Simbu's romantic comedy 'Vantha Rajavaathan Varuven' directed by Sundar C could be the dark horse in the fray which is also looking for the January 14th date.  The coming weeks will decide how  the respective producers Sathyajyothi  Films, Sun Pictures and Lyca Productions share the one thousand odd screens in Tamil Nadu to get the maximum opening for their respective films.
