Thala Ajith is not only hailed as one of the biggest stars of South Indian cinema but also as a thorough gentleman who inspires his fans to believe in individuality and hard work. For the past fifteen years, there is mystery surrounding the controversy between Ajith and director Bala.

In 2004 Ajith signed on to play the lead in 'Naan Kadavul' directed by Bala and prepared for the role by growing long hair and also altering his body and also for the first time in his career allotted bulk dates of 150 days. Photoshoots were done and the first look was also released but the project did not take off and after two years in 2006 Bala started the film with Arya in the lead.

There were whispers in Kollywood at that time that Ajith and Bala had differences of opinion on how the film should proceed and rumours even went to the extent of stating that Ajith was attacked in one such argument. A senior journalist cum producer has stated in one of his most recent interviews that the news that Ajith was attacked is totally false and only that he had a very angry argument is true.

The journalist has even clarified with producer P.L. Thenappan and he too has reportedly confirmed that no such incident took place. However, Ajith and Bala never reconciled after that and the duo doing a film together may never happen again.
