The announcement that Ajith will be doing a film with director Gautham Menon came at a time when no one expected it to happen. The most anticipated combo had missed out for quite a few times in the. Ajith played a cop and a doting father in this film after a long time. As fans were immensely satisfied with the film, but there were mixed reactions from general audience and critics as many felt that the film had a heavy influence of Gautham's previous cop films and it did not have anything new in terms of story. But Ajith's performance received a universal thumbs up.

Ajith sparked yet another surprise by to teaming up again with director Siva. After Saran, during his formative years. Ajith has never teamed up with a director in such a short span. Ajith proved his commitment to the producers and fans and worked round the clock to finish the film. He had already postponed a surgery that became imminent due to an accident he suffered while performing a breathtakingly risky stunt sequence in Arramabam'. He again suffered a severe injury on his leg while shooting for a stunt sequence in this film but did not allow a single day suspension of work. He was even forced to use a walking stick during that time. But he worked day and night for dubbing and ensured that the film releases as a grand Diwali treat for fans as promised.

Vedalam', an unpretentious mass hero masala film playing to the galleries overwhelmingly pleased the fans of Ajith while a large section of new age film buffs and a majority of critics trashed the film . But that doesn't stop Vedalam' from emerging as a mega blockbuster and one of the biggest hits of Ajith's career. The film achieved this feat mainly because it appealed to the family audience, especially the ladies in semi urban and rural segments. Theatre owners from two tier cities of Tamil Nadu observed that Vedalam' drew enormous female and family crowd, which was a rarity for an Ajith film. Amazingly the film sustained the onslaught of severe rains in many parts of Tamil Nadu and the Chennai deluge and still emerged as a profitable venture for all the stakeholders.

Within a few days after the release of Vedalam' Ajith underwent a surgery and he had to take complete rest for a six months. But during the sabbatical Ajith reportedly started preparing for the role in his next film. That film, which has been titled as Vivegam' and has now reached the final stage will be hitting the screens in August 2017. Ajith apparently plays a spy agent in this film and he will be sporting a chiseled body with abs. This was revealed as a surprise element in the first look poster.

Vivegam' is certainly going to be the biggest and most anticipated releases of the year, but youngsters and film buffs who did not like Vedalam' have been highly skeptical about it. With the backing of a prestigious production house like Sathya Jyothi Films and with the talented director Siva at the helm, we can safely. hope that Vivegam' will break all the pre-conceived notions and emerge as a big blockbuster.

But teaming up with Siva for the third time in three years and for two back to back films has not gone well with many, including a section of Ajith fans. Undeniably Siva is an effective commercial filmmaker and he has assured two super hits for Ajith. But people's tastes, preferences and perspectives are changing. Today's audiences have started expecting versatility from actors in the roles and genres they select. The criticism that in the last five years Ajith has been doing films that cater only to his fan base, is getting spread across general audience. Whether the criticism holds good is a debatable topic. But it is true that most of Ajith's films in the last decade have been action films with other elements included in different proportions. It is true that it has been a long time we saw him in a family oriented emotional films or content oriented films with a social message.

We hope Ajith fills this gap and accommodates the expectations of all kinds of audience and also his own fans by doing films under multiple genres and different characters in the future. After all, just a loot at the list of his films in the previous decades would convince anyone that he is a master at doing that.
