Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk surpassed Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index to become the richest person in the world after his net worth came close to $188.5 billion.
Responding to the information provided by a Twitter account called 'Tesla Owners of Silicon Valley,' Elon Musk said, "How strange." In a follow-up tweet, he added, "Well, back to work ..." According to a Bloomberg report, Elon Musk's net worth soared by over $150 billion just in the past one year, possibly making it the fastest bout of wealth creation in history. Elon Musk has previously mentioned how he wanted to use the money to build a city on Mars. "About half my money is intended to help problems on Earth & half to help establish a self-sustaining city on Mars to ensure continuation of life (of all species) in case Earth gets hit by a meteor like the dinosaurs or WW3 happens & we destroy ourselves. I want to be able to contribute as much as possible to the city on Mars. That means just a lot of capital," the entrepreneur said.
Elon Musk, who added over $100 billion to his wealth in 2020 alone, surpassed Microsoft's co-founder Bill Gates just less than two months ago. About three-quarters of Elon Musk's net worth consists of Tesla shares, valued more than four times as much as his stake in Space Exploration Technologies Corp., also known as SpaceX.
