Ever since Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur joined the BJP on Wednesday, it was confirmed that she would be contesting as MP from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. As is known, Sadhvi is a terror-accused. She has faced imprisonment without a chargesheet for many years. She and a few others are accused of conspiring the Malegaon bomb blasts of 2008. It was in 2017 that the National Investigation Agency acquitted her of all charges. However, she continues to face charges under the UAPA Act.
Since she is terror-accused, the 48-year-old Sadhvi joining the saffron party has meant negative publicity for the party. "The BJP should have waited for all charges to be dropped before inducting Sadhvi. They have gone to the extent of giving her MP ticket. If she wins, the terror-accused will be in the Parliament. It will be a mockery," says a Facebook comment.
As for the BJP, it wants to "polarise" voters, which is why she has been fielded against Digvijay Singh, the former chief minister and Congress leader, who was instrumental in popularizing the term "saffron terror".
Many are of the view that Sadhvi win definitely win from Bhopal.
