The spread of the novel coronavirus infection has been too fast not to feel worried. An expert has said that the first 5 lakh cases took 140 days in total. However, the last 5 lakh cases took less than two days. This data is for the entire globe.
"It took 100 days in all for the first 1 lakh deaths to happen due to coronavirus. But the last 1 lakh deaths happened in just 17 days," says Dr. Faheen Younus, an internationally-renowned medical expert.
He is not in favour of herd immunity and feels that COVID-19 infections are entirely avoidable. "It is a myth that everyone will get COVID anyway. Here are the facts: More than 99% of the world didn’t catch SARS/MERS. More than 85% don’t catch flu every year. More than 66% didn’t get the Spanish flu in 1918. Believe: Wear masks, avoid crowds," the expert advises.
It's said that we will have to live with masks for the next couple of years at least. Dr. Tom Frieden said, "Masks work. More than one lakh deaths in the US could quite possibly have been prevented, simply and cheaply, if we all wore masks, washed our hands, and watched our distance when the science on how Covid spreads first became clear."
