Australian Tennis player and Wimbledon 2022 finalist Nick Kyrgios is due to appear before a judge in Australia’s capital city of Canberra next month. The player has been charged with assaulting his former girlfriend Chiara Passari late last year.
The Australian police reportedly pressed charges against the 27-year-old player after it was alleged that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari in December 2021 in Canberra. They had reportedly been together from July 2020 to October 2021. “ACT Policing can confirm a 27-year-old Watson man is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on the 2nd of August in relation to one charge of common assault following an incident in December 2021,” the police was quoted as saying.
Nick Kyrgios could face up to two years in prison if he is found guilty. The player’s lawyer Jason Moffett, from Key Chambers, said, “The nature of the allegation is serious, and Mr Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously. Given the matter is before the court... he doesn't have a comment at this stage, but in the fullness of time we'll issue a media release.” Kyrgios faced off against Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2022 final, where the latter won his 21st Grand Slam title.
