Five-time Grand Slam champion and former world number one Tennis player Maria Sharapova announced on Friday that she has given birth to her first child - a baby boy - with fiancé Alexander Gilkes.
“The most beautiful, challenging, and rewarding gift our little family could ask for," Sharapova posted Friday on Instagram, also revealing that Theodore was born on July 1. The Tennis champion announced the news of her pregnancy on the occasion of her 35th birthday in April this year. Sharapova, who retired from Tennis in February 2020, got engaged later that year to Alexander Gilkes, who is the founder of an online auction house, Paddle8, and is also apparently a close friend of Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Maria Sharapova won her first Grand Slam as a 17-year-old in 2004 when she defeated two-time defending champion Serena Williams at the Wimbledon final. She followed it up with the US Open title in 2006, the Australian Open title in 2008 and the French Open title in 2012. She also won the silver medal at the London Olympics the same year.
