If you feel like you need some inspiration to pack your bags and run for the hills, read Indiaglitz's weekend recommendations to bring out the travel bug in you.

1. Madras to Pondicherry

Probably the first road movie in the Tamil film industry, this black and white cult classic which released in 1966 was directed by Thirumalai Mahalingam. An ensemble of vibrant characters like a fighting couple, a son who is dangerously fond of pakoras, an old lady and her granddaughter, a snake charmer will not fail to give you endless gags. The story revolves around Kalpana who boards a bus from Madras to Pondicherry after being witness to a murder. Kalpana's love interest Ravichandran, actor Nagesh as the conductor, A.Karunanidhi as the driver makes the story a humorous watch if not a serious travel documentary.

2.Anbe Sivam

Two travellers, a naive arrogant youngster and a spiritually defined man find the meaning of life in the most unexpected of places as their lives intertwine to form a disturbingly soulful climax. Maddy who seems always perturbed by first world problems is taken for a literal and philosophical ride by Kamal Hassan's character who lives by communist and atheistic ideologies. Even though Nallasivam may be physically not attractive, he touches the heart of people wherever he goes and earns goodwill. This film proves that travel is not only fun, but it increases your sense of empathy to other lives.

3.Paiyaa

A gorgeous black car, a carefree guy, a bubbly innocent girl and the road. Mix the ingredients and you will be served a fast paced road movie with sprinklings of love, chase and action. 'Paiyaa' follows the journey of Shiva played by actor Karthik who takes Charu played by Tamannah on a car ride to Mumbai to save her from gangsters. Eventually the duo fall in love making the movie a good all-round entertainer.

4.Achham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada

'Accham Yenbadhu Madamayada'. That is exactly what this film tries to teach its audience. On the outset, AYM might appear to be a road trip(gone wrong), but it hints at how travel could really transform an individual. Travel like life, might throw surprises on you but it the end it gives you amazing experiences to remember forever. This must be enough reason to put on your riding jacket and hit the highway this weekend.

5.Jil Jung Juk

'Jil Jung Juk' is the story of three chaps Jil, Jung and Juk who are assigned to transport a cocaine painted ambassador car by a drug-lord. The black comedy which is set in a post-apocalyptic world is a laugh riot that doesn't fail to tickle your humour bones constantly. The trio's comic performance and the 'road movie' vibe that the film gives makes this a must watch for someone who plans to hang out with friends on the weekend.

6.Chennaiyil Oru Naal

'Chennaiyil Oru Naal' is a distinct selection to this travel movies list. Even though it might not be predominantly what defines as a road movie, but nonetheless it's a valuable addition. A police driver who wants redemption, a commissioner who is forced to produce an improbable result, the failing life of a movie star's daughter in a hospital, an aspiring journalist and a failing marriage- all of these intertwine to form an unique road movie. The story revolves around the thirteen year old daughter Ria of a movie star who is need of a heart and how Cheran as the driver manages through a variety of obstacles to transport the organ from Chennai to Vellore, travelling a distance of 150 kilometres under two hours. The movie will no doubt instil a sense for safe driving and is also a tribute to unsung heroes like ambulance drivers

7.Magalir Mattum(2017)

'Magalir Mattum' is the latest released movie top make this list. The movie in which Jyothika plays the lead role can not only be considered a road film, but also tries to throw light on important issues such as women's empowerment. The story revolves around how a woman's documentary inspires her mother-in-law to set out on a journey to find her long lost friends. This film will inspire both women and men to set on on their own journeys finding their loved ones.

8.Saroja

Four friends Jaga, Ganesh , Ajay and Vishwas hit the road in a bohemian looking van to see a cricket match. But their supposedly fun journey faces a setback when they take a detour and enter a strange isolated habitat where they get into some serious trouble. Adding to that, they also find that a girl is being held captive. The potpourri of excellent suspense, thrill, slapstick humour and the friendship that the characters define is a more than good reason to make this film a wonderful road movie.

9.Kayal

'Kayal' directed by Prabhu Solomon is a heart-wrenching story of characters connected by the concept of travel. The movie is about two friends who work hard so long as they make enough money to travel and explore places together. The duo gets stuck in a sticky situation where the hero falls in love with a maid, Kayal. Kayal after being proposed to, sets on a journey to find her lover. When most Tamil films show men to go great lengths to pursue their love, 'Kayal' softly overrides them in this aspect.

10.10 Endradhukulla

Vikram who plays the lead role in '10 Endrathukulla' is a driving instructor who ends up with Shakeela played by Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Even though initially Shakeela who had failed her driving test 14 times annoys Vikram's character, the duo eventually end up falling for each other. On their ride to Mussourie, the hero finds about the imminent danger that the girl will face, and rescues her from the clutches of evil. '10 Endrathukulla' has some gravity-defying car stunt scenes and action to inspire a little travel in you.
