The Telugu Film Producers' Council has come in for much trolling on social media for requesting Narendra Modi, K Chandrasekhar Rao and Jaganmohan Reddy to include people working in the film industry in the category of frontline workers for the purpose of vaccination on a priority basis.
In an open letter, TFPC said that several artists and technicians have contracted the coronavirus despite the covid protocols in place. "As a result, several shooting schedules have had to be postponed. Keeping in view the difficulties faced by the film industry, we request the governments to consider us as frontline workers alongside doctors, healthcare workers, police and others," the statement reads.
Many on social media are laughing at the silly suggestion. Frontline workers are essential, without whom the pandemic cannot be fought. That's why three crore of them have been identified for vaccination on a priority basis. Software engineers and the like, who contribute more to the economy, have not been included in the priority list. How come TFPC alone has made such a ridiculous request? Effect of dumb movies made by them?
