Reports of a temporary shutdown of single-screen theatres in Telangana have sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many attributing the closures to the growing trend of pan-Indian films. However, the Telugu Film Producers Council (TFPC) has issued a statement vehemently denying these claims.

In a press release, the TFPC clarified that the closures are solely due to individual decisions by a few theatre owners, driven by low revenue streams during the election season and the popularity of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The association further emphasized that no official notice regarding closures was received from any group of theatre owners or association in either Telangana or Andhra Pradesh.

"It is only a few theatre owners who have closed their theatres due to low revenues," the press note stated, emphasizing that the TFPC, along with the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce and Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce, are not connected to these closures.

The statement aims to address the misinformation circulating online and reassure the film industry that the closures are not indicative of a larger trend or an industry-wide decision. The recent closures of single-screen theatres in Telangana have raised concerns within the Tollywood industry, with many wondering about the future of these beloved venues.

Moviegoers and industry insiders alike are expressing anxieties about the financial strain on theatre owners, who are grappling with mounting losses and the challenge of returning to profitability. There are fears that, unless the situation changes, single-screen theatres, a cornerstone of the Tollywood experience, could face extinction. Hope remains that all stakeholders will work together to find solutions that ensure the survival and success of these iconic spaces, ultimately benefiting the entire industry. It has to be seen how the current deadlock will be resolved in the coming days and in the meantime, single screen theatre managements are confident that once big films releases, the problems will be solved.
