The unsavory and unseemly incident involving actor Navdeep and actress Ankitha may be the talking point of the industry for a particular reason.

But it has also drives home another fact. The exploitation of heroines ---- if they do not know Telugu, that is.

It is now well known and accepted that it was Navdeep who started it all during the shoot at Mauritius.

Navdeep, it is alleged, had some choicest throwaway lines for Ankitha. He had crossed the limits, sources say. But he was under the impression as all his words were in Telugu, Ankitha, a Hindi girl, wouldn't understand a word of it.

As it happened, Ankitha not only knew a smattering of Telugu, but also understood what Navedeep was up to. And before long, the media was presented with a juicy gossipy story.

After the incident came to light, many heroines, the especially the many non-Andhra ones, the value of knowing the local lingo.

As of now, the top heroines who are not exactly from Andhra are: Trisha, Charmi, Jyothika, Sonali Bhendre, Tabu, Amisha Patel, Sameera Reddy, Genelia, Asin,Nauheed, Shriya. There also many others who keep flitting in and out.

Some of them can manage a bit of Telugu. But none are comfortable talking it. But somebody like the enterprising Asin is showing the way for others.

The Mallu girl has started learning Telugu.

Moral of the story: Local tongue can keep the local heroes away.
