Ever since it was carved out of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh in 2014, Telangana was quite
happy to claim Hyderabad as its capital. Andhra Pradesh, which has been building Amaravati
as its capital, would have to have Hyderabad as the common capital with Telangana till
Amaravati is constructed in roughly a decade’s time from now onwards. Here are a few
interesting facts about Telangana:
- Telangana has a total of 31 Districts including Hyderabad;
- 119 Assembly constituencies are spread over these Districts;
- There are 2.73 crore eligible voters (males – 1.38 crore, females – 1.35 crore) out of the State’s population of 3.50 crores.
- Urban localities account for 1.36 crores of the population while the rural areas outnumber their urban counterparts marginally, numbering 1.38 crores.
- As per 2018-15 survey, the GDP of the State was Rs.8.43 lakh crores.
- 66.54% of the electorate was very well educated; there are 988 women per 100 men.
- The total number of polling booths to be set up across the State will be 32,574.
- The state has 88 general constituencies while 19 have been earmarked as ‘reserved constituencies’. Tribals can contest from 12 seats.
