Telangana's official Covid-19 cases don't reflect the real picture: Doctors

The suspicion that Telangana's unofficial Covid-19 positive cases may be higher in number is gaining ground. Doctors For Seva, a group of doctors from the State, hold the view that testing has been grossly inadequate in the State. As a result, a false impression that Telangana is successfully flattening the curve may have been created.
As per a Deccan Chronicle report, the specialists belonging to Doctors For Seva recently told the Central team of visiting experts in Hyderabad that the figures claimed by official bulletins don't reflect the real picture. They want the government to be clear and transparent. "Samples haven't been taken from the bodies of Covid-19 suspected deaths since April 20. Many of those infected may be mingling with others. In the absence of identification and isolation, the infection spreads fast," the report says. Some of these observations were made by Doctors For Seva.
Suryapet, the second most affected district in Telangana, has seen no ramping up of testing for more than a week.
"At the ground level, people suffering from bilateral pneumonia, chest scans showing abnormal conditions and patients in intensive care units of private hospitals are not being tested for Covid-19. The doctors say this is against the guidelines of the ICMR," the report adds.
