The Telangana State Election Commission has announced the schedule for the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) elections in the State. The polls will be held in three phases (the dates are: May 6, 10 and 14). The results will be declared on May 27.
Polls at a ZPTC office in Magapeta (Mulug dist), and 40 MPTCs of Jadcherla, Burgamphahad and Badrachalam, won't be held due to unresolved legal issues arising from the previous election.
Notably, ballot papers will be used in the elections due to the non-availability of an adequate number of EVMs and VVPATs. As many as 1.56 crore voters are eligible to vote in the elections. Those citizens who were eligible to vote in the municipal elections can't vote in these elections as per the provisions of the Representation of Peoples Act.
It's only after the aforementioned polls that Mandal Praja Parishad and Zilla Praja Parishad members will be elected through a separate process.
Model Code of Conduct has come into force. As many as 50,000 officials will be deployed for the conduct of the elections.
