A variety of rice developed by researchers at Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University will help diabetic patients and also those looking to avert heart-related issues, a report says.

As per a Times Of India report, the rice variety, named as 'Telangana Sona', contains ONLY 51.6 percent glucose, and less amount of carbohydrates than millets.

Many such useful varieties, however, can't be grown beneficially by farmers due to various issues concerning yield and cost of production. 'Telangana Sona', an expert has said, can be cultivated in less span of time. That way, it is a farmer-friendly crop.

The Telangana government and other agencies have to promote the variety for 'Sona' to mean anything for diabetic patients.
