Telangana Poet and Lyricist Ande Sri Passes Away

Renowned poet, lyricist, and Telangana’s pride Ande Sri (64) passed away on Monday morning. According to family members, he suddenly collapsed at his residence and was immediately rushed to Gandhi Hospital, Hyderabad. Despite receiving medical treatment, he breathed his last at 7:25 a.m., doctors confirmed.

Born on July 18, 1961, in Rebarthi village, Siddipet district, Ande Sri’s original name was Ande Ellayya. He is survived by his son and three daughters.

A household name across Telangana, Ande Sri earned immense respect for penning the state’s official anthem, “Jaya Jaya He Telangana.” He played a key role in the Telangana movement, using his poetry and songs to inspire countless people.

Known for his mastery in “Ashu Kavitvam” (instant poetry), Ande Sri’s creative brilliance made him one of the most admired poets of modern Telugu literature.

Over the years, he received numerous awards and honors for his literary contributions:

2006: Won the Nandi Award for the film Ganga

2014: Received a Doctorate from the Academy of Universal Global Peace

2015: Honored with the Dasarathi Literary Award and the Ravuri Bharadwaja Literary Award

2022: Conferred the Janakamma National Award

2024: Received the Dasarathi Krishnamacharya Literary Award

Recently, the Telangana Government recognized his literary excellence by presenting him with a cash award of ₹1 crore. He was also conferred an honorary doctorate from Kakatiya University.

Ande Sri’s sudden demise leaves a deep void in Telangana’s literary and cultural landscape. His words will continue to echo in the hearts of those who love the language, the land, and its spirit.
