After duly examining reports submitted by medical experts on the test positivity rate in Telangana, the Cabinet today decided to lift the lockdown completely. After the opening up of States such as Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, Telangana is yet another major State to phase out the lockdown at one go. It's perhaps the first major State to lift even night curfew. Even States such as Gujarat have night curfew in effect till June 26 (until further revision).

There were rumours that the night curfew in Telangana will remain for a few more weeks. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who was forced to impose a lockdown in April by the High Court, didn't want to make incremental changes in lifting the lockdown. The announcement comes as a surprise, but not if you consider the fact that the second wave is fast receding.
"The positivity rate has come down significantly. The coronavirus situation is under total control. The Cabinet has ordered all officials to lift all types of regulations imposed during the lockdown to the fullest extent," the official statement said.
The lifting comes into effect from tomorrow (Sunday).
