Looks like we are in for another round of night curfews. The other day, Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajendar said that the government has got no plans to impose a lockdown, partial or otherwise. At a time when night curfews are back in fashion in some parts of India, the Telangana High Court on Monday seemingly tried to force the government’s hands into imposing either night curfews or weekend lockdown or both in the State. The government has to convey its plan of action within 48 hours.
“If the government does not act on this in the next 48 hours, the court will pass orders,” the court said.
This comes as a blow to small businesses and other economic activities, which started seeing some sort of revival in recent months.
It has to be seen what the Attorney General will submit to the court before April 22. The KCR government doesn’t seem to be interested in a partial lockdown. A scientific reply might convince the court to curb its enthusiasm to wade into the Executive’s territory.
