For the past few days, quite a few incidents of rape have been reported from Telangana's Hyderabad one after the other. The spate of tragic incidents has shocked many.

On Tuesday, the National Commission for Women wrote a letter to the DGP of Telangana, urging him to directly intervene and see to it that the right steps are taken to prevent the repetition of such heinous crimes in Hyderabad.

The DGP has also been directed to file a detailed report with the NCW, which is a statutory body, within 7 days as to the precise steps that have been taken or initiated to ensure women's security in the city.

The NCW, which intervenes in matters and takes suo moto cognizance of serious issues concerning women's safety across India, has taken a serious note of the increasing rate of heinous crimes against girls and women in the Hyderabad district of Telangana. The letter further states, "The role of the police is not only to protect and prevent crimes, but also to take swift and appropriate action in such matters."
